History of the Dugout!

Troy and Tammy Locke often spoke of how Windham needed an ice cream shop, one that you could walk up to, order an ice cream and enjoy the outside at a picnic table.  In the summer of 1997 they spoke about it often enough that Troy went to bed and literally dreamt up the idea of The Ice Cream Dugout, including the name, theme and even names of ice creams, sundaes and drinks.  Troy woke up the next morning and wrote down his dream.  He told Tammy about his dream.  She hated the idea, thinking it was just a way to fit Troy’s love of baseball into a business.  Well, almost 5 years passed and the opportunity came to live the dream.  Troy brought back out the notes from his dream and this time Tammy agreed that it was a great idea.  They started the process in the winter of 2002, first calling Jeff Shain to secure their supplier, Shain’s of Maine Ice Cream, Troy and Tammy’s favorite ice cream in the world.  Jeff was excited for them and believed in their business idea.  The Locke’s finally opened on July 17, 2003, which happened to be the first day of the second half of the MLB baseball season.  The Dugout’s regular season follows baseball season, opening the first day of the MLB regular season and ending at the conclusion of the World Series.

2004 will never be forgotten!  Thank you Red Sox!
